At first, Ritz did extensive marketing to promote the 2 Frontier
machines in the district. There were newspaper ads, large store window
banners, and neighboring stores were required to advertise these
services too. Neighbor stores would accept orders and guarantee next day
( or 2 day) turnaround. Orders were sent to Frontier stores and returned
via courier etc. As volume increased, the Frontier stores were getting
backed up......sometimes orders would arrive over 1 week later. Stores
that had the machines would do their customers work first, and outlab
work second as time permitted. As the problem mushroomed, the routing
process was explained to many customers and the " buck" was passed. This
proved to be a mistake.
Many customers elected to deal directly with the Frontier stores, and
the blame was put on store personnel and managers for losing business. A
very ridiculous situation! Business was not lost, it was
transfered....and as I mentioned before, some folks lost their jobs and
were held accountable for the losses.
Ritz is not so anxious to cross -promote the Frontiers now. 1-2 new
machines snuck into the district and will be promoted at the store
level.
