I don't recall the entire text of the message this quote came from. 
However, I can honestly say I have never used AF for my stereo
photography.  I do not have an AF camera.  My Konica FT-1, Rollei SL35,
Kodak stereo and VM stereo all require some type of manual adjustment in
order to render a good (great!) photo.
