The masses don't directly use that dynamic range, their use
of photography is prints, where the dynamic range is very
very very small. .

I quite agree, but if digital would rub out all of the photography
market *other* than the Kodachrome 25 and Provia 100F markets,
might one still say that film is pretty much history?
But then on the plus side, stereo film photography might
be a bigger percentage of film photography at that point! :-)
