[photo-3d] Film Vs Digital

I have been following the comments on here about the days of film
being numbered.
There was a statement on here that the newer megapixel cameras will
eventually equal film. Perhaps in resolution, but not in dynamic
contrast range. Even the present megapixel cameras for all thier
resolution cannot equal film in dynamic contrast range.
I will say that the new digital cameras put out great TV pictures,
but these fall flat when compared to film. Canon recently posted pics
of thier latest and greatest megapixel camera on a web site. These
pictures of some national park somewhere were impressive until I began
to notice that the snow caps on the mountains were lacking in detail
and the shadows likewise. Because I examine electronic pictures with
a very critical eye (From my broadcast television engineer days) I
will always look for certain clues that will describe how the camera
is performing. When I do this, I usually get flak that I am too picky
and fussy about things. BUT, for what these new cameras cost I think
picky and fussy should be the order of the day. A 35mm camera loaded with
ASA 100 film will out perform any digital camera on the market clear up
to the most expensive Nikon "pro" digitals. Yeah sure you can have super
resolution video, but if you are limited to a 50db contrast range, its
still a TV picture.
Nothing digital can equal the stunning effects of a good chrome film
like Kodachrome 25 or Provia 100F as far as I am concerned. Especially
when viewed in stereo!
Let the flames begin!
