Hi Rory,
I did not know that Disney is champing at the bit to increase profits
by reducing distribution costs using digital formats...mmm-
Not my best choice of an example to illustrate my point- OK.
However, you did not address my point...
"IMHO, digital imaging is simply a medium , like stereo, 35mm, 2.25,
4x5 etc., not an end to a medium. Photography did not
displace/replace
painting or drawing.! TV did not replace movies, nor has the web
replaced newspapers & magazines."
And Video never replaced film...
Film has a "LOOK"-
Video has a "look"-
and so does Digital, although it's still too young to have an
establised and "final" look. They are three very different beasts in
pro, collector and consumer eyes, and will remain so for a very long
time.
There will alwas be something magical about chemical compounds
suspended in a gelatin base & reacting to light that neither video
nor
digital imaging will ever recreate. (especially in stereo!) ; )
And to see just how much I Love emulsion, check this out...
It's not stereo, but it is certainly emulsion!
