Registration pins are actually a limiting factor to precise
mounting. The eye can detect finer vertical alignment errors
than the 0.1mm adjustment steps of standard RBT pin bars. 0.1mm
is "good enough" in many cases, but is not the ultimate in precision.
Your comments are confusing convenience, which appears to be the
real reason you are favoring RBT mounts, over accuracy and artistic
benefit, the reasons your comments want us to believe are why you
choose RBT mounts. Plastic is far worse than cardboard at allowing
light to pass through the mount. (Put a single black half of an RBT
mount in your T'd RB and look at all the light that pours through.
And of course the white half positively glows.) To adopt your analogy,
do great painters use translucent frames around their masterpieces?

I like RBT mounts for their convenience. I can't afford the luxury
of that convenience very often, but convenience is probably their
greatest virtue. I recommend RBT mounts to beginners, and advise
them they are generally better off switching the bulk of their
mounting to more affordable, more precise Spicers, after they've
gained some experience.
