Just to be clear, I don't actually know the shutter speed my twin Ricoh
point-and-shoot rig is choosing. I assume the aperture is wide open. All
I know is that I've taken hand-held shots at dusk or at night, with K64,
and been *very* pleased with the results. I wish I had a way to scan
slides, so I could show you some of the results. Offhand, I can think of

- a fountain with a sculpture, lit by spots, from about 30 feet away,

- the Disneyworld Main St. Electrical Parade, taking from about 15 to 20
feet away,

- a carousel with its own lights, nearly filling the frame.

If I can think of a way to scan these and put them on my site, I
will. Maybe I just have very steady hands. I don't know. Whatever it is,
though, I'd love to know the settings so I can take similar shots with my
Realist.

I do use a tripod when possible, but often, it just isn't. When I'm
travelling on business, for example, I'm lucky to be able to bring a
camera, let alone a tripod, etc. I have a small table-top tripod but,
folded-up, it looks like a gun, so I'm leery of bringing it through airport
security. Anyway, tripods are time-consuming to set up, and the shots I'm
talking about were pretty spontaneous.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
