[photo-3d] OSPS - September meeting

Last year Mark Dottle did a great job posting the
Ohio Stereo Photographic Society (OSPS) club meeting
reports with his unique sense of humor. Unfortunately,
Mark could not attend our September meeting so I'll
have to take over this month.
The meeting started one hour earlier than usual, with
a practical slide mounting workshop. I demonstrated
mounting in the 5 popular available mounts: Slip-in,
heat seal, Albion, RBT and Spicer. Having first
explained how to use the RBT mounts, it only took me
a few seconds to show the RBT-to-Spicer transfer
method by mounting a real slide on the spot. It is
that simple! Thanks DrDave for the training!!!
The meeting continued with an open projector.
Irene Ferman, one of our older club members (93 years
young) showed slides from a 1970s visit to Banghong (sp?).
The presentation was interesting and highly entertaining,
thanks to Irene's unique style and sense of humor. (An
interview with Irene was published in Stereogram 4.2)
Now, I am sure she does not mean to be that funny, but,
invariably, most of everything that comes out of her mouth
sounds funny! It is uplifting to see a person full of
energy and good spirit at this age! I don't know about
you, but if I were 93 I would be happy to: 1) Be alive!
2) Open my eyes in the morning and be able to crawl out
of the bed! 3) Drive a car at night! Not to mention
having vision in both eyes and the strength to climb the
steps and get to our stereo meetings!
We continued and completed the program with our first slide
competition of the season. The subject was "Open" and 12
people entered 36 slides. Thanks to Mark's absence I was
able to capture three awards. My three slides were taken
this summer during our trips to Arizona and New York city.
There is the story behind each one and I feel compelled to
talk more about them in the following postings. So please
bear with me. Thanks!
Overall, a very enjoyable meeting with 27 members in
attendance, including 4 visitors. Two of them joined our
club. One is Mike Schoenborn (hi Mike!) who drove from
Columbus (2+ hours each way). He said he found our club
in the Internet. So, this thing WORKS after all!!! Well,
it is nice to know.......
Our next meeting is the first Tuesday in October. Our
web site is at: http://home.att.net/~osps/
