The X3 is based on Ricoh XR-X3PF cameras which use Pentax K
mount lenses. The electronics of this camera does it all from
full manual to full auto to aperture priority and all sorts of
program shifts. Exposure compensation of +- 4 EV. Shutter
speeds from 32 seconds to 1/3000th on auto and 16 seconds to
1/2000th on manual (with bulb also). Full TTL metering in
either center weighted or spot. Self timer, Auto bracketting,
remote control socket, DOF review, auto expoure lock, built in
TTL flash with GN of 11 in meters at 100 ASA, and much more.

My opinion is that this is THE stereo camera to have
especially when coupled with the Pentax 28-70mm zoom f4
constant aperture lenses. I have found the center weighted
metering to be spot on in almost every situation from 30
second night shots to bright sun action shots to mixed
sun/shadow shots. When coupled with a good TTL flash such as a
Metz unit flash shots are almost point and shoot and come out
perfectly exposed. Add to all this the ability to add the
macro unit and have total TTL flash ability and there just
isn't any other choice - in my opinion.
With all that said the unit is big, bulky, and heavy. I have
gotten used to it and find a "normal" SLR to be like a toy in
my hands now.

The X4 is based on the Cosina and is a totally manual camera.
It is the lightest and least expensive of the RBTs. I have not
used this camera so will let others tell you about it. But no
need really - just get the X3B and be done with it *{;-)
That's all for now,
