Bob Maxey replied, the best source to ask is the manufacture. I agree, but
since no one has yet (including myself) inquired, I thought it would be fun
to figure it out.
I don't know if the digital prints I got made were done specifically on the
Fuji
370 because they used Kodak photographic paper. Is anyone else
making an equivalent machine as the Fuji? I asked the techincal support
people what machine they used and they didn't know! It seems the tech
people are not the same people doing the film processing. Long story.
Any ways, I got out my 16x loupe and could see verrry faint fine vertical
lines
(depending of course on your orientation) running along the picture. I came
up with a dpi of 400. Not too shabby at all!
Remember to compare apples to apples and you'll realize this is very, very
good. A 1440 dpi printer doesn't even come close due to many factors such
as dithering of the colors, among other things. Dye subs come a close
second at 300 dpi except there is the longevity, cost, and banding issue (I'm
surprised Mike hasn't brought that up!).
So for stereo pairs (or 2-D pictures), the Fuji(?) digital prints are
great. Not
too good with regards anaglyhs. This is no fault of the printer but rather of
the image format (compressed lossy) they are using. I have to check with
other local processors to see if this is the case with all of them. I fear
it is.
The work around there is getting dye sub prints but this is much more
expensive if you don't have your own dye sub printer. My film processor
made some dye sub anaglyph prints 3 years ago and they faded quite a
bit.
