I agree with most of the comments regarding the purchase of new
computing hardware, whether its CPU or printer or whatever.

I use a P5/90 because it runs my Quicken 95 software just fine and my
checkbook balances to zero each month (no overs or unders!). It
accesses the internet from home for the few times I need internet access
from home without a problem. And, it runs Freecell fast enough for me.
So, in that regards, everything's fine.

Now, I want to get into slide and photo scanning. The current hardware
I have for that is not sufficient. The color printer I have (Canon
5000) has gone downhill since I purchased it and the cost of repairs is
comparable to a new printer purchase. The scanner (Acer 620st) does a
fantastic job with prints but appears slightly out of focus for the
slides. My processing power increased when I recently increased my
memory but it still seems to take forever when I start doing photo
manipulation.

This is where my frustration creeps in. Which system should I buy.
Preferrably the fastest I can afford, along with lots of memory, a big
disk and a cd/rw. I thought I purchased the top of the line printer
when I got my Canon 5000. However, the next month the 5000s were gone,
replaced by the 5100s and now the 8000 series (or something like that).

I really thought the scanner (Acer 620st) with built in light lid was a
great purchase. That was until I found that my slide duplicating tube
took sharper photos than the scanner produced. Now, someone on the list
recommended another scanner with light lid and displayed slide scans
with that scanner that looked bright and sharp. Shoulda, coulda, woulda
bought one had I known!

I guess it's time to post all my old stuff on eBay and upgrade to the
latest & greatest. Now, when did AMD say they were coming out with that
1.4Gb chip????
