That is what you said. Those who say it need education about the Realist.

I have never had a broken lens cover - why does it need to be metal? No
benefits there. My only problem is those little clips - granted, hard to
replace at times.

Not too often, but I got into the habit of cocking it after each
photograph. Now, it is automatic.

HERE IS A POSSIBLE COMMENT TO START A ''BOB IS AN IDIOT THREAD WITH'':
Me, that's who. Often I want to change shutter speeds, but I have always
gone ahead and done it. I never believed there was potential for damage
by cocking the shutter then changing shutter speeds. I was taught that it
was not a big concern. Lots of Realist users out there who will tell me I
am making a mistake, but so be it. All I know is from my own experience
and that is that it is OK to change shutter speeds when the camera is
cocked.

> How many of you have never held the wind release button too long and
wound by an exposure?

In the beginning I used to do this, but it became less and less of a
problem. Now, winding is second nature to me. The key is not holding the
button down more than is needed.

> How many have never tried to use the rangefinder with your finger

You can't use the rangefinder unless your fingers are clear. How is this
a problem? You might as well criticize those "boneheads" in Germany who
make that old mechanical, non-automatic, completely manual Leica
Rangefinders, of creating an inferior camera because there is no
Electro-sync between the lens cap and the M3's Master Slave Computer to
alert the user the lens cap is on.

Lots of cameras have little "Problems" that are not really problems. Like
rolling past the numbers printed on the roll film paper backing, or not
removing a dark slide (or replacing it before you remove the holder), or
my worse problem yet: Trying to remember if it is Salt, Lime, Tequila, or
is Lime, Tequila and Salt?

Besides, these days, I rarely focus the Realist. I use DOF.

> Why do you think they kept making changes to the Realist? Not
> because they thought it was perfect?

No, because they wanted to improve it. Everything is improved over time.
Sometimes things change for the simple reason they find a better way to
do something, even though the existing product is as good as it needs to
be.
