Actually, the rods are not typically involved in the Pulfrich effect; the
glasses aren't nearly dark enough for that.

Two ways to tell if you're in a rod-dominated regime: (1) you can't see
colors, and (2) you can actually see things better by looking a bit to one
side, as there are either few or no rods in the central retina (needless to
say, this is not helpful for stereo).
