Most materials will have the same problem shortly
after you install them.

Instead of replacing the friction pad, a better idea
IMO is to remove the pad completely and install a
rubber tube in the roller so now the roller rolls
over the bare "leg" of the slide holder, thanks to
the tube.

I discuss this and other problems or reconditioning
ideas (like enlargement of apertures) in my Kodaslide
book which comes with a new reflector and replacement
material for the friction pad and a small tube in case
you decide to go with this better IMO method:
