I grew up looking at ViewMasters but never had a clue how they were 
made until I found out somehow when I was about 15. I had just gotten 
my first 35mm camera and took 2 cha cha shots on slide film. I then 
cracked open a VM viewer and tried to center the film inside. I think 
it sort of worked. Then I forgot about stereo for another 15 years 
till I found a Realist. Then a VM Personal, then another Realist,
then 
a projector and viewers and more cameras etc. etc.

BTW, I have also heard the cha cha method called "the Kodak 2 Step". 
Makes you buy twice the film.
