[photo-3d] cold weather effect on realist

I went out last night with my Stereo Realist (that tough old workhorse,
right?) to take some shots of Christmas lights. It was about 25 degrees.
It took me 10 minutes outside to get set up at the first spot, so it was
long enough for the camera to get cold. I set the speed at 1 second based
on my spotmeter, but durn if the shutter speed sound more like 1/100! Tried
a couple more, same thing. So I took some on B and packed it in. Got in
the house and sat down with the camera, tried the shutters on 1 second, and
by the second attempt it was firing normally.
Is this a pretty common problem? Anyone have an idea how cold temps can
make the shutters act this way? I've had it apart before and can't think of
what would cause this--and then be able fix itself when warmed up again.
Ideas? (Maybe I should have my wife sew up a nice little duck-down jacket
for it, complete with mittens for the lenses!)
Best regards,
Mike Galazin
