This is a common problem with many mechanical devices, not just
Realists or even cameras. Many lubricants congeal in the cold,
slowing or even seizing the mechanism. The American military
experiences in Korea led to the development of special lubricants for
cold weather use, but I'm not sure that I'd want to try colloidal
graphite in a camera shutter.

Perhaps the good Dr.T could recommend the correct lubricant to use to
minimise this effect.
