The Stereo Realist and most similar cameras have the
lenses set just over 69mm apart (and the apertures
almost 71mm apart). This works well for the Realist
5P image format, because two frames (10 perfs) fit
perfectly between the left and right apertures. The
TDC Vivid has the lenses just over 65mm apart. (Which
happens to be a better match to average human eye-spacing.)
To permit 10 perf of film to still fit between the left
and right apertures (spaced about 66.5mm apart), the
camera loops the film through a short "detour" between
the left and right apertures.
Hope this helps!
