It is f5.6 (wide open for this camera), which is why I seldom use my
Nimslo with flash. Not enough depth of field for my taste, especially
since I mostly do closeups with this camera. -Linda

On the Burder modification (Burdlo) there's a button added that locks the
camera at f11 or thereabouts. Looking at the circuit diagram, pin 6 of the IC
that runs the camera is looking for the dedicated Nimslo flash. One thing that
would cause no harm to the camera is to try the old trick of using your
Vivitar
and putting a bright battery powered LED in front of the exposure sensor. I'd
suspect the camera would be fooled and the combined shutter/aperture would
run at a high fstop. However, there could possibly be synch problems or the fl
ash may not trigger at all-- you'll
just need to try it. The manual states: "The electronic flash synchronization
delay circuit shall cause the flash to fire when the magnet release command is
given. The Green LED shall override the Low-Light (Red) LED with an external
signal from the "Opti-Lite", of +9v Max. When "Optilite" is ready, 25 micro A
Max. is applied to the signal contact of the flash connector."

If anyone out there has found the correct way to force the camera to use a
minimum aperture with flash via an electronic hack, now might be a good time
to
clue us in. If not, it's a good project to tackle.
