One final warning about sniping, and I will let my involvement in this
decidedly non-3D discussion end...
Be careful how high you set your snipe bid because you can get mighty
burned! A few years ago I was watching a VERY RARE CD from a British band
called Marillion. (It was a double CD of them live in Rochester, NY -
limited to only 2,000 copies specifically made for people who contributed
money to help pay for the US leg of that tour.) This copy was up to $150.00
when I decided to go ahead and get it if I could, knowing I would (probably)
be able to sell it back on eBay if/when I needed the money again. So... At
the last minute, maybe in the last 50 seconds, I snipped it... Thinking that
surely others would as well, I put in a VERY high bid ($400.00) to be sure
to just be higher than the other snipping person(s) who might go up $20, $30
or $50... I expected to pay $170.00 or $180.00...
Was I ever shocked when my bid when through to see that I was the high
bidder at $360.00 - that almost killed me with instant regret, until I hit
refresh to watch the auction end and saw that another sniper won for
$410.00! I suspect they were as shocked as I was... I got VERY lucky that
day - the winner did not... As soon as other Marillion fans who had the CD
saw that one go for that much, they started offering their copies and they
could routinely be had for about $75 or so from then on...
Just FYI - now back to 3D. ;-)
