This argument doesn't make sense to me. Low prices encourage more people to
bid, higher prices cause the bargain hunters to drop out. In my experience,
those items which are underpriced on the last day of the auction actually
sell for higher prices because of last minute sniping frenzy by those hoping
to pick up a bargain.
Another way to look at it is what happens if everybody snipes? What happens
if nobody snipes? The fact of the matter is that the dynamics of any
auction are affected by many factors, so I doubt that there is one
definitive answer to the question of sniping. All I'm sure of is that the
pro sniping arguments I've seen thus far are too overly simplistic and
fallacious to be taken as gospel.
