What parameters would you like to compare? The 1640 has an 
optical resolution of 1600x3200 DPI and is 42 bit color. It 
will scan a transparency (B&W or color, positive or negative) 
of up to 4"x5". That means it will also scan a mounted stereo 
slide without having to remove it, or make a special mount, or 
have to mirror or flip it (like most all dedicated film 
scanners). I have scanned RBT, Spicer, and Glassed mounts.
