I'd love to hear move about the film recorder. I've been thinking
 that if there's a consumer-affordable film recorder that's good, I
might just get interested in digital photography Any more details on
 this?>>

Umm, well I wouldn't exactly describe the PCR II as "affordable", but that's
a relative term, isn't it? The alternative to owning a film recorder is
getting a bureau to outpout the slides for you. But they charge a minimum of
about $8 PER SLIDE!

I reckoned that - over about 10 to 15 years, I would get my money's worth...

But, of course, having the facility "in house" has meant that I can
experiment a lot, and the costs are minimal - just the film and processing.
And I can home process (if I screw it up, I can just re-record the film!)

I'm having something of a learning curve with regards to colour management,
but I'm definitely getting there! And I've just acquired a densitometer, so
the testing will get more scientific - once I source the right bulb!

I'm now getting what I call "digital dupes" that are difficult to tell if
they are originals ore dupes... The one that I entered in the Stereoscopic
Society Competition was judged without comment on the quality - and it didn't
look different from all the other slides.

For what it's worth, I got a reconditioned film recorder and a copy of
RasterPlus software to drive it for about $4500...

Affordable? You judge :-)
