It's because You have an early version of the camera. I have a document
someplace that tells exactly when they made that change.
It's not a big deal, and actually makes fixing the camera a pain in the
behind because you have get the advance indicator out to remove the top.
The repair manual actually does mention it, but only briefly. I'm working on
an updated version that adds more detail on how to remove it among other
things. It's part 322 in the manual. You can see it and the hole it goes in
the 177 assembly on the same page (#38).
The "Film in Camera" thing is pretty simple but it's hard to describe.
If you are coming to the local NSA meeting next month in Fort Worth I can
show you in more detail.
My main camera is the early model without these features, but I don't miss
them.

One thing I've noticed though after reviewing the on-line manual, my
camera does not have the "film in camera" indicator nor does it show
anything moving when the film is wound. The repair manual does not show
a breakdown of parts for this area. Can anyone enlighten me on what
should be there and how it might work? Maybe I can fabricate something
to replace the missing parts.
Thanks & regards,
Ron
