My early VM Personal *does not* have the film advance indicator
(rotating red cross on the top), but *does* have the red dot on the
bottom (that shows only when there is film in the camera). Did some
early cameras not have the film-in-camera-indicator? I do confess that I
didn't realize that it was there for a long time. Also, when you are
rewinding into the film canister on the "B" phase with the later
Personals, the film advance indicator keeps turning and turning and
turning even when the film is completely rewound. I took a bunch of
film-less pictures for that reason a few years back. I don't think the
film advance indicator is a particularly useful feature, although I do
like the film-in-the-camera indicator now that I know it is there.
