It is difficult to identify the closest object. I had trouble
recently on a stereo pair of a tree covered with Spanish moss
with little branches sticking out at you. Which one was closest.
That is why I start by mounting to infinity with a mounting gauge,
then view the untaped slide with a radex viewer w/o its frosted
cover and check the near objects vs. the window. This viewer has
low magnification and you can see the frame edges and more. The
final check is projection and I often have to do a tweak after that
if it is for club viewing. Yes, I know that moving the chips together
moves objects out of the window toward you.
