[photo-3d] List moderation status update

Regarding list moderation:  Photo-3D has been an
unmoderated list for many years, *conditioned on* the
voluntary compliance with standards of "good listmanship."
Photo-3D has never been "unconditionally unmoderated."

The list is TEMPORARILY in moderation mode because too
many posters (myself included) had strayed too far from
internet guidelines for list etiquette.

All posters have a responibility to think about the
READERS of the list.  Public appeals for improved list
etiquette, made by individual readers and by moderators,
went largely unheeded.  It was decided that a period of
temporary moderation would more effectively bring the issue
to the attention of list posters.  That indeed appears to
be the case!

The list will return to its most recent status (posts from
new members moderated; individual moderation as needed)
this week.  The moderators are not doing this for the
fun of it!  We are FAR MORE anxious than you are to see
this end.

It is very difficult to reverse the momentum of a trend.
In many cases a person who receives a note asking them to
edit their quoted-back text, or their cute ASCII art sig
line, will react negatively.  That is a natural reaction
for most of us; the moderators understand that, so we have
worked hard to keep everyone happy--obviously an impossible
task.

We asked previously that comments on moderation not be directed
to the list, but rather to photo-3d-moderators.  This is not
to eliminate discussion, but to direct it to its proper place.
This feedback can be accumulated and shared via the files
section on yahoogroups.
