[photo-3d] Important notice

This is an important message. If your name is on the
following list, you can safely ignore it:
* End of list :-)
The point: this applies to everyone, not just "the other
guy!"
In keeping with photo-3d's tradition of loose moderation,
we are not attempting to creat a black and white set of
rules. We do expect all subscribers to read and understand
long-standing internet standards, and we are asking all posters
to use good judgement in complying with them.

These guidelines are not something made up by people just
wanting to be ornery. It is important to remember that when
you write a message that will be sent to 800 people, you
should set higher standards than when you are e-mailing to
a single person. Please take a moment to think of the
aggregate impact of your extra 10, 20, or 30 lines of text
after it is multiplied by 800 readers, and an average of
around 20 posts per day. (Add it up; it's a lot of time!)
The most vexing problems of late have been over-quoting
and overly long signature lines. Please pay special
attention to these issues by:
- cutting quoted-back text to the absolute minimum.
Much better is to summarize any quote-back of more
than a few lines. Quoting as much old text as the
new text you are writing should be a rare maximum,
not an average.
- Use the tips from the tidbits article to set up
multiple signatures so that you can send a brief
version (1-3 lines preferred, over 5 definitely
too much).
Please remember that Photo-3D is missing or has lost
valuable voices because of (real or perceived) heavy
volume. In addition to being inconsiderate of current
readers, bloating the digests with excess quoted-back
text makes the list SEEM even harder to keep up with
than it really is. Think about how hard it is to face
a backlog of 10 digests of 25K each; cutting out half
the volume by eliminating exceess quote-back and overly
long signature lines can make a huge difference in how
our list is perceived by readers and potential readers.
Update on moderation status follows.
