Don't move the flash between shots, just the camera on the slide bar.
Moving the flash will cause retinal rivalary.

The flash is attached to the camera?
Turn it off and use a blue photoflood bulb.

Can't turn the flash off?
Build a little tent out of tissue paper to soften the shadows.
(Don't try this with the photoflood.)
