I had one of these scanners for awhile, and you don't need to 
remove the film chip from the mount.  All you need to do is slip 
the mounted slide in sidewise.  You can rotate the image 90 
degress using the scanner driver software, or in the software you 
use to touch up your scan (PhotoShop, PhotoDeluxe, etc.).
