In my club we usually show slides with our Bracket Fader, which does
not have the vertically mounted option. What we usually end up doing
is set it up to almost show all of a 7 perf RBT slide, and the
occasional wider slide just bleeds off the warping edges of the
screen. It is true that we have wonderful 2x2 shows by Phylis Maslin
and Al Stenson and many others in our goup, but our height is limited
due to hanging lights, and I can think of only a handfull of
verticaly mounted shots in all my years of the club.

I think, with my new screen we'll be set up so that the full frame
horizontal shots will fit perfectly, and the very very rare vertical
uncropped shot will bleed off the top and have head top shaped
shadows in the bottom.

I'm thinking the best use of screen square footage ($$/foot) for our
club is to have a wider than high screen where one in a thousand
slides (for my club) will bleed off the top and bottom and the
other 99.9% will fill most of the screen. If your club only does 5
perf, or you have Boris doing full frame vertically mounted shots
then a square screen might be better.

IMHO,

Grant
