Awhile back I experimented with a variac unit on my Marshall guitar rig.
The amp head is a 50 watt all tube unit. I ran the voltage just above
120 and the amp screamed! The tone and attack was tremendous. The down
side to this was replacing tubes every 2 weeks, and eventually I had to
replace the tube sockets as well. If you try one of these on your
projector, I'd suggest setting the voltage just under the rated value of
the equipment just to be safe. It's very tempting to ramp the voltage up
to that " sweet spot" just over 120 volts! :-) Anyway, check out the

available.
