[photo-3d] Your Saturday Toronto Star Newspaper in 3-D!

Yesterday's (April 21, 2001) Toronto Saturday newspaper came out as a
full 3-D edition newspaper! Well, almost, 3-D is definitely sprinkled
through out the newspaper. There are 3-D images from articles and ads,
and, oh yes, a few 3-D articles! The paper checks in at a hefty 2.5 pounds
(~1.15 kg)! They also include a pair of anaglyph glasses in the magazine
insert (there is not mention of who made them, on the glasses).
I don't normally buy the Toronto Star (I live in Montreal after all) but when
someone in Toronto reported about it, over on the Viewmaster list, I went
downtown today and picked up a copy.
I realize this will probably be a difficult issue for most people on this list
to get and/or read, so I will report a bit more in depth on the 3-D articles
soon. Since the issue is not commonly available after this weekend,
I might try scanning in some of the articles for review, unless of course
some good samaritan reports me to the copyright police!
They mention someone in their advertising department manager meeting
came up with the bright idea of a 3-D newspaper. I get the feeling if it
wasn't for the succesful Sport Illustrated 3-D issue they might not of done
have come up with that idea or try it.
You can check out SOME of the images on their website,
http://www.torontostar.com/
although the images on the web are prettttty poor, the same ones in the
newspaper are better. The anaglyph images run from sort of okay o good.
Overall I would give it a passing grade just barely. The few 3-D articles make
up for it.
