Macro stereo photography SHOULD be discussed on this list as
well as everything else stereo related. With that said here
are some reasons for the different lists:
1) It allows infinitely more deatiled, specific discussion to
go on without "overloading" a more general list. I have seen
many times that a topic/thread has "died" because there was
too much discussion and people got disinterested. There has
been an ongoing discussion with dozens of posts on how the
flash works on the RBT S1 camera on the RBT S1 list. Does this
list really want all that? Sure the first post describing it
would be fine, but a month long discussion???
2) It allows one to read and discuss only that topic which
interests them. This is no different than having separate list
for stereo photography rather than having it in a general
photography list. Believe it or not there are people that
their ONLY stereo interest is macro.
3) It is easier to find information. Rather than search
thousands of posts in p3d for macro stereo discussions you can
just go to the macro3d list.
4) What is so hard/bad about subscribing to ALL the lists. It
is no different to get four posts from four lists than all
from one.
Let us relate this to the current topic of the NSA Convention.
If it was setup like the one list model you would be required
to sit through all workshops and all stereo theater
presentations and all field trips and all of the trade show.
With the multiple list model you would be able to pick and
choose which ones you would and would not like to attend. No
one would be denied any topic, but better yet no one would be
forced to sit through ones they don't.
I am sure someone will probably take this to the extreme and
say "why not have a thousand lists broken down to the most
minute detail?" Obviously there needs to be a line drawn but I
would rather see the thousand lists with the choice to join
one or all than the one list encompassing everything.
Once again let me state that I think all stereo realated
subjects should be discussed on this list. However, for
further detailed discussion there should be other specific
lists.
