S3D Re: priority mail woes
I'd have to say the USPS is far more reliable than UPS. Never had a lost
package. Had one hassle collecting on insurance, but they finally paid.
The new Confirmed Delivery from USPS is great for .35 cents.
UPS on the other hand leaves the package on the doorstep and literally
runs. They figure that on an actuarial scale, you can lose a few at the
basic $100 insurance level and no big deal (as far as they're concerned).
UPS is more expensive. My most recent encounter with UPS was a simple
shipment of a package from Nevada to Washington State. UPS sent it to New
Jersey instead. It took *weeks* of trying to get them to locate their
package (from the tracking record, it looks like they sent it from New
Jersey to Spokane, WA, then back to New Jersey! It finally arrived, after
about 3 weeks. Also UPS has the worst customer support on the planet. Even
when they know where something is, where you are, and who sent it, they
want *you* to contact the sender, so the sender can send a form so they
can track it. E.g. they have all the necessary information, but require
unnecessary paperwork. Real efficiency, 'eh?
