    The basic assumption with a solution like this is that people are
    reading the message are using an e-mail client that understands
    HTML.  It use to be e-mail meant plain text.  Lots of popular
    e-mail clients are changing that assumption being made by lots of
    folks since that is not their own experience.  So I just want to
    remind people that solutions like this do not work as expected for
    some number of people.  I'm not saying this shouldn't be done, I'm
    just saying it shouldn't be done without the recognition that it
    isn't going to work for some number of people.

    As an example, what I see from Jim's in my plain text e-mail
    program is:

    Of course your e-mail client might *still* manage to resolve the
    above URL into a link.  But what I see, literally, is a less than
    sign, 'A HREF=...', greater than sign, "Jim's Rebel Rig", less
    than sign, forward slash, "A", greater than sign.

    And my client warning me:

    Of course people who use plain text browsers, or more importantly
    screen readers, have learned to cope with this sort of stuff.  So
    please just don't think that solutions like this are doing us all
    a favor.
