color correction/adaptation

I agree that the eye adapts easily to any consistent light source within
reason. However, i often look at my Realist format pairs on a color
corrected light table while mounting or editing them, and then check the
final results in my Kodaslide II. Of course i notice the color temp
difference, since i am switching back and forth. I also use the light table
for my full frame 35mm pairs, so that creates an obvious comparison/comflict
as well.
In addition, i have often been subjectively aware of a warm bias when only
looking through the viewer, since i have used my 5000K light table quite a
lot, and perhaps i am 'remembering' how it looks. It also matters how long
the viewing session is. If i spend a quick 15-20 minute break with my
stereo slides, the warm bias is obvious. If I spend over a half hour or so,
i become less aware of it. I also use a color corrected desk lamp for
viewing prints. Most of the time the viewer bias is enjoyable or
acceptable, but I would rather correct the light and have everything
consistent. (a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of the small mind, etc,
but still...)
The Gossen Ultrapro is considerably more sensitive than earlier versions, if
anyone has access to it, and the color measurement accessory. The Color Pro
2F ands 3F meters are probably also more sensitive (and more accurate?) My
local source doesn't rent out any of these.
For casual/entertainment use it doesn't make much difference, but if is is
as easy as adding a few CC gels, it might be interesting to try correction.
Since i haven't heard of anyone color correcting projector lamps, obviously
it is no big deal what color the light is when only one source is being used.
