A 1.4 is likely to have less distortion than
a 2x TC and a 50 mm lens is likely to have less
distortion than a 35 mm lens. So the 1.4x50 is
likely to be better than a 2x35 system, though
not as good a a straight 70 mm lens.
I don't know of any TC's made specifically
for 50 mm lenses though there are ones made
for 300 mm f2.8's for example.
1.4 TCs from independent lens mfgrs aren't
terribly expensive (maybe $99) so it might
be worth a try with your existing 50 mm lens.
