Thanks, Peter, for the nice example of stars forming an equilateral
triangle at the edge of the field as well as at the center.  That's 
a good one for me to add to my notes.

It is so fascinating that the requirements for stereo eyepieces and 
for astro telescope eyepieces are so widely different.  Terrestrial 
telescopes are sort of in between and neither fish nor fowl since 
they have magnification and so work on a principle which causes 
perspective distortion (as opposed to the barrel or pincushion type 
of distortion).

Seymour Rosin's article, "Eyepieces and Magnifiers" in "Applied Optics 
and Optical Engineering".
