***** While this may be true to a certain extent, I have noticed in lots of
stereo image editing work that image pairs that have this or other minor
distortions are specifically the ones that create stress in the eyes while
viewing. The viewing method does affect the degree of stress, but I notice
the effect when present to some extent in all viewing methods.
When I have identified these discrepancies and fixed them, the stress goes
away, so it would seem to be more important than is indicated by a simple
choice based on *can it be viewed?* I'm quite sure my eyes are more tolerant
to mismatches than the average persons eyes. But if I can detect the stress
factor, then I know that someone with sensitive eyes that is not used to
stereo will likely feel stress too. They may not understand where it's
coming from and some even assume it's common to all stereo images.
Since you can't resize a film chip or otherwise fix the image directly, it
would make getting the best and closest match seem pretty important. At
least if you want the best possible results for the broader audience.
