John et al,

A friend of mine once had one of these, for which he paid a small fortune. 
I was singularly unimpressed with the view thru. There was a lot of
vignetting, and appreciable distortion.  I made a comparison with it and a
Kodak viewer into which I mounted 35mm Bausch and Lomb Hastings triplets (I
think you've seen it). And while I cannot be trusted to be objective, of
course, I much preferred my own handiwork. I got my lenses from magnifiers
that I bought from VW&R---they were the pocket kind with the cover that
pivots to cover up both ends of the lens.
