T3D View Magic camera setup

One of the reasons I haven't joined APEC III is that having that many
prints made would cost a lot (I do not have an enlarger). I think
I've come up with another in a long line of gimicks that will allow me
to do stereo photography without lots of complications. Let's see if
this fares any better than the others. :)

The basic idea is to shoot both images for a View Magic over and under
viewer on a single sheet of 8x10 film (yielding a 4x10 panoramic view)
and then contact print the pair using one of the non-silver
photographic techniques (which I can do without a darkroom). I will
use a darkslide that has been cut in half lengthwise to shield half
the sheet of film during the separate exposures, and raise and lower
the camera back to center the film behind the lens.

My question has to do with camera setup. Somewhere on the net I found
a GIF showing the relationship between the film gates, the lenses and
the near and far points in the scene being photographed. What happens
when the film gates overlap? Right now I'm planning on only
raising/dropping the camera back and shifting the front. How should I
determine lens separation? Right now I'm planning on shifting the
lensboard +/- 32mm.

I plan on testing this out by using 4x5 sheet film and enlarging to
8x10, but I figured it would be nice to have some idea what to expect
before I started.

By the way, for those keeping track, yes i do think dragging an 8x10
camera out into the field is less complicated than trying to squeeze a
4x5 enlarger into a NYC apartment bathroom that I share with my wife.
