Actually, Andrea Blair wrote that part!

Yes! Yes! This is what I am looking for too. A simple approximation for
the beginner macro stereo photographer. A guideline to start them on
their way. I am teaching this now and I want to give accurate
information. I don't mind telling them it is an approximation; for exact
measurements refer to XXX (various books, tables, spreadsheets,
formulas). I just don't want to sound stupid when an advanced person
listens to my talk and says "that's rubbish - you don't know what you're
talking about!". All I want is a simple rule-of thumb that is easily
remembered, like the 1:30 guideline, but I need to know where to
(approximately) take the measurements from. Can you help? Anyone?

Andrea

p.s. This may be answered by the time this is posted as I am a few days
behind on the digests.
