T3D Re: "Inferior" photographic equipment
- From: John W Roberts <roberts@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: T3D Re: "Inferior" photographic equipment

A few additional comments on this subject:
- "Inferior" and "Superior" ratings only have meaning if there are
agreed-upon parameters for rating, which has been pointed out is not
always the case. So the effort to come up with a comprehensive and fully
agreed-upon scale for "Inferior" and "Superior" is doomed to failure.
- For specific parameters for specific applications, relative ratings are
possible (e.g. shutter speed repeatability for uniform exposure across
multiple photographs).
- The people who have been promoting "inferior" equipment for its artistic
value have discriminating against pieces of equipment that are not cameras.
We need to see more posts describing the benefits of other flawed equipment
and services:
- "The Shakemaster tripod gives my photos that motion-blurred, jiggly
look that I need to convey my artistic message."
- I can always count on OmniThumbs labs to return my photos with the
fingerprints, dust specks, and hairs that add the special textural
content I want."
- "The Flashloser strobe frequently fails to flash, giving my photos
that dark, mysterious look."
- To be strictly within the T3D charter, discussions should be on *how*
and *why* a particular camera lens gives a particular effect, preferably
with diagrams and numbers - "artistic value" arguments should really be
over on the P3D list.
:-) :-) :-) (apply smileys where appropriate)
