So, the stereo camera manufacturers were aware that the FL of
the viewer is longer than that of the camera but they did not
think that this was a problem.  For some people, the added depth
stretch can be a plus too.

I believe (but will have to double-check) that all European
format cameras have lenses between 35mm and 40mm, so they are
still shorter than the corresponding viewer lenses.

I think you best bet is to try a viewer like a Realist red
button.  That will give you larger images than your Brumberger. 
You will see more details and you will enjoy stereo more.
