$1600 buy you a copy of Matrox Inspector.Very handy for centroiding,
histograms,blob analysis, edge detection, scripting and stuff like that.
But not designed for stereo but I use it anyway. 

NIH image (Mac)and Scion (PC)are free image analysis programs.
