Kodak infraredblack&whitefilm in Ilfosol

Hello Subscribers of the infraredmailinglist,

My name is Peter Bulthuis. I am new on this mailinglist and also a beginner
with infraredphotography. I read the FAQ but I still have some questions
left. My first film is a Kodak infraredhighspeed black and white film. My
camera is a Nikon F501 and has no infraredsensor in it for seeking the
begin of the film (like the EOS-camera's). But my camera has a little glass
on the back so I can see what sort of film is in it. Is this little
spywindow a problem with infraredfilm in the camera; should it be taped or
not?

Normally, I develop my black and white films in Ilford's Ilfosol-developer.
Now, I want to do the same thing with the infraredfilm. Do you have
experience with this chemical and this film; how long should I develop the
film? Are there other things I need to know?

I read on the internet that I should use distilled water for developing a
infraredfilm. Is this true and why can't this be normal water as I use with
normal b&w-films?

I am using a plastic Jobo-developertank. Is it allowed to develop the film
in this tank in bright light or must it be in total darkness?

If you know the answers of one or more of these questions, please write me
back.

Thanks for answering,

Peter Bulthuis
