My standard developer for HIE until this year has been D-76, and I've
never had a problem with pin-holes. You don't say anything about the
rinse cycle: Do you use a stop bath? I don't--just a plain water
rinse. Some commentators are convinced that the acid stop bath is the
culprit. Others that anything but distilled water (which you use but
I don't--I use filtered water) can be dangerous. Still others
attribute the pin-holes to temperature changes during processing,
which I take care to avoid and you don't mention.
