Great - glad to hear it! It is nice to have confirmation that one's crazy
ideas actually work <grin>.
Since David Horn posted his description of a film splitter, I think you
might want to modify your aparatus by replacing the Xacto blade with two
roll type blades. I think that this would lower the overall friction in
the cutter, and minimize the chance that the film might buckle if the
blade gets dull. I don't think that it would be too hard to make a
sharpened cutting wheel yourself, but you might also be able to use or
modify the blades from a rolling blade type paper cutter, or an old can
opener.

I think that the solution might be to use wheel type cutting blades as
mentioned above, and a takeup spool assembly on the output side of the
cutter so the pulling tension would be even accross the film. Rather than
pulling the film through the cutter by hand, you would simply wind it up
on the takeup spool(s). A takeup spool would probably improve your
existing system too.
Just some more ideas. Again, I'd be interested in knowing how it works if
you try any of them.
