Hank,

One thing that may be interesting is that HIE is one of those films that
does not seem to suppress halation. This will produce poofy halos around
included light sources. They can be really neat, but are very hard to
contain using conventional processing.

I have experimented briefly with it unfiltered in very dark places lit by
tungsten light; I was wondering whether I would be able to use it as a
substitute for Recording film, which I usually use for that purpose-
because Kodak seems to be moving toward discontinuing RE. It was
remarkably similar. I just rated it as I do RE, at ISO 800, and processed
it in Windisch pyrocatechin. For details on my use of this developer with
HIE (it is the same as for RE) see the my article in the Photoforum FAQ:
"ftp://ftp.rit.edu/pub/vms_served/ritphoto/photoforum/faq-27" It is the
last article in that group.

Of course, I may be presuming that your friend performs in the dark,
which may not be true at all. Does your friend perform with plants?
Might be even more interesting!

Star filters have never been my thing, but hey, why not? I never would
have thought of angel wings, either, but I'm reconsidering that.
